This role, Head of Airline Data Science will be accountable for setting the data strategy within TUI airlines in order to enable ambitious operational efficiencies to be met as well as leading and growing a data science team which already has a strong track record of success.
The role will also form part of the wider TUI Analytics community working closely with the Chief Commercial Architect & Data Officer to ensure that the Airline is both inputting into the wider Data and Analytics Strategy and the candidate and their team is able to take advantage of analytics related investments and learning opportunities throughout the organisation.
The successful candidate will have a passion for data, relentless curiosity about the data and the business processes behind it, real analytic rigour and the ability to inspire both the analytics teams and the wider business so that TUI Aviation can move rapidly on the next phase of its analytical journey.
How you will make an impact as a Head of Airline Data Science There are many ways for you to get involved :
Data Strategy: You will provide thought leadership on how and where TUI Aviation should be using data to drive the most value and play a key leadership role in setting up technology and transformation programmes to achieve this value.
Solution Leadership: You will lead our teams to crack complex problems on large quantities of data. Utilising your knowledge of a range of data science techniques including both statistical methods and mathematical optimisation, ensuring programmes of work are hypothesis lead and insight converted from data into decisions or new ways of working. You will ensure that team can rapidly develop models and/or prototypes, but can then also develop these solutions into scalable, secure, supportable production solutions.
Capability Development: You will put in place and execute a program of continuous learning and development so our teams are constantly inspired to develop their skills and knowledge and we have a learning community to progress the cumulative knowledge of TUI’s data science expertise.
Leading Change: You will understand that benefits realisation from data science is not just about a great system and some clever algorithms, but about having a clear vision for how solutions will deliver benefit, taking stakeholders on a journey and aligning the solution development to a “to-be process” that ensures that value is captured in reality and not just in theory.

Stakeholder management: You will be required to influence and inspire multiple senior stakeholders in different functions and airlines and will demonstrate significant thought leadership in the area of data science.
Leading a team: You will manage a team of analysts and data scientists creating the environment for high levels of performance, coaching for development and supporting all colleagues to bring their best selves to work.
Planning and prioritisation: There will be many calls both on your time and that of the resource you manage. You will need to put in place clear processes to manage and plan the pipeline of work to ensure clarity for stakeholders and effective delivery.

Proven experience of leading analytics related change in an exceptionally complex, multi-layered operational environment.
Proven experience in leading the delivery of a range of data-based automated solutions at scale, ideally including machine learning/artificial intelligence/optimisation.
You will be familiar and comfortable with data engineering technologies and solutions.
Strong interest, curiosity and breadth in technology and a commitment to application of data and science in decision-making.
Strong interpersonal and relationship skills, adept at managing and influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience leading a team, coaching individuals, and a team to deliver high levels of performance with experience developing team members and creating a healthy team environment.
Team Player, proactive, curious and used to working across geographical boundaries and with multi-cultural teams.
Familiarity and experience with a wide range of technologies e.g. Spark, Python, familiarity with AWS ecosystem and methodologies to deliver effective solutions into production.
Challenging and analytical, not afraid to recommend new opportunities to optimise business performance.
